As a self-proclaimed recruitment fanatic, my passion for this work has shaped my career for more than 25 years, and yes, I genuinely LOVE talking about it.
Recruiting has never been just a job for me. It has been the thread that has run through every stage of my professional life. I have worked as an in-house recruiter, inside staffing agencies, as the owner of my own agency, and now as a freelance recruiter. I have partnered with small mom and pop businesses, growing companies, and large organizations, helping them find the right people and build stronger teams. Each chapter taught me something different, and every experience added to how I see recruiting today.
What I have learned over the years is that great recruiting starts long before resumes and interviews. It starts with truly understanding the job, the company, and what success in that role actually looks like. I do not believe in taking a job description and rushing to fill it. I believe in slowing down, asking better questions, and using tools like job benchmarking to create clarity so the right person can be matched to the right role, for the right reasons.
As my career evolved, something else became clear to me. Many recruiters are excellent at recruiting, but no one ever teaches them how to run a recruiting business. I experienced this firsthand when I transitioned from owning a staffing agency to working as a freelance recruiter. Suddenly, I was responsible for every part of the business, not just the work I was already good at. I understood what needed to be done from running my own agency, but now I was the one doing it all myself. Some areas felt familiar, while others felt uncertain, and I quickly realized how isolating and frustrating it could be to figure it all out on your own.
That experience changed the direction of my work.
Today, while I continue to support organizations through recruiting and employee development, my greatest passion is helping freelance recruiters build stronger, more sustainable businesses. I believe recruiters deserve more than trial and error. They deserve guidance, practical systems, and a clear understanding of how to think and operate like business owners, not just service providers.
If you are someone who loves recruiting but knows there is more to learn about building a business around it, you are exactly who I do this for. My goal is simple, to share what I have learned, help you avoid common pitfalls, and show you what is possible when experience, process, relationships, and practical business thinking come together.
